LOCKHEART TOPS IN 2015 SOUTH BEND!
Wayne Lockheart,
of Toledo,
Ohio, won the
17th Annual
Pool Checkers
Festival in
South Bend,
Indiana, with
an undefeated
record of 5
wins and 7
draws on
Saturday, Nov.
21, 2015. Lockheart
is known to
most of us as
the Tournament
Director at
the Nationals,
but in this
contest he
showed that he
has not
forgotten how
to play the
game. He took
home a $100
prize and a
plaque.
Thomas Fletcher, who came all the way from Maryland, was second, only one point behind, and last year's champion, Fred D. Shurn, Chicago area, finished third, just one point behind Fletcher.
Larry Sealy, from Dayton, Ohio, topped the "B" division. There were only 11 entries this year, probably because of snowy weather, and the players agreed to play in two classes, 7 in "A" and 4 in "B," with the "B" group playing a double round robin of 4 games against each opponent.
Roger Blaine was the organizer and director, and Art and Linda Bell graciously invited the players to their home after the tournament for delicious food and more checkers.

FLETCHER
DOMINATES 2015 BIG
BOARD!
Thomas
Fletcher,
who traveled
700 miles from
Maryland for
the weekend of
checkers,
rolled up a
9-1 score with
4 wins and 1
draw to win
first prize of
$50 and a
plaque in the
10 x 10 or
International
Checkers
tournament on
Sunday, Nov.
22, 2015. Art
"Sonny" Bell,
South Bend,
was second
with 7. Six
competed.
"Big Board"
checkers takes
a longer time
than the small
board, so
there was only
one game with
each opponent.
